Lontano II

for Orchestra

Program Notes:

Lontano II is a one-movement composition for orchestra written in spring 2022.

"beautiful memories,

or

romanticized.

a past Present,

already temporary in its fleeting existence,

already nostalgic.

providing the necessary drama as time moves,

necessary for self to exist.

society is its first glamorous guests,

they lavishly provide it with the "gift" of distortion

the mind is their faithful slave,

but worst,

the slave of its own

the mind follows the visitors,

without any skepticism or resistance

it's a reflection of the visitors,

-a simultaneous mimesis-

it is them.

it had already happened

before it happened.

and nothing stops moving,

romance, indefinable nostalgia is not there anymore.

the mind moves, the mind distorts,

inevitably.

but still fighting,

to survive with its memories,

its impressionistic colorful illusions,

still tries to grasp the water in the net

but the net is full of wide open holes,

the water slips,

only its humidity remains on the thin ropes of it,

just a trace,

but it is not water

it's only a wet rope

another false image

another seizing

another obsessive search for symbols.

the self needs to survive,

the consciousness of its fictional drama restrains it from

surrendering to the void

its journey is a journey of distortion

distortion;

the wonderful sign of its stubborn and proud arrogance

yet the mind still turns a blind eye to the warnings

drama is its security

a welcoming melancholy

it still holds the net and

greedily, desperately licks the ropes in search of water"
